Upper limb surgery focuses specifically on the conditions of the shoulder and elbow.

Conditions that can cause the need for surgery are arthritis, osteoarthritis, sport injury, cartilage damage and joint disorders.

The upper limb surgical team at Manchester Surgical Services specialises in the following procedures:

  • Shoulder arthroscopy/arthroscopic subacromial decompression – Surgery to improve shoulder impingement using keyhole surgery to reshape the shoulder blade and repair damage tendons
  • Shoulder/elbow replacement – Surgery to replace the shoulder or elbow joint with an artificial joint to improve quality of life if medication and physiotherapy has been ineffective
  • EUA – Also known as examination under anaesthetic, this is a procedure that will allow your surgeon to examine damage or inflamed tissue to complete a diagnosis

As with other orthopaedic procedures, our consultants are trained in, and practice, minimally invasive techniques where appropriate to improve surgery outcomes by minimising infection and reducing recovery time.
